My name is Susan Davis, and I joined Agenda for Change as the Global Coordinator on January 1. I am excited to be working on behalf of all of the members of the collaboration. Although I am hosted by IRC in the Netherlands, I am based in DC. I’ll be sharing an office with Elynn Walter, the former Global Coordinator, who has helped me get up to speed. I’m happy to be living in DC again. I lived here for five years after graduating from Georgia Tech, and got my Masters degree in Public Health from the George Washington University.
My background is in public health, partnership development, and WASH sustainability. I began my work in international development with WaterPartners International (now Water.org), and have also worked with Agenda for Change members CARE USA and Water For People. In 2011, I founded Improve International to seek better ways to help people everywhere get lasting safe water and sanitation services. Throughout my career, I have learned a great deal from many people and organizations. I strongly believe that collaboration among diverse partners and understanding complex systems are critical to keeping the safe water flowing and the feces safely managed. That’s why I am thrilled to take on this role: because it builds upon my past experiences and offers great opportunities for learning from and sharing with leaders in WASH and beyond.
I have evaluated or supported international development activities in 23 countries, advised funders and impact investors on investing in effective sustainable water and sanitation services in developing countries, and guided non-profits and social enterprises in strategies for lasting impact. Find more information about my past work here.
The collaboration has some useful developments ahead, including a new governance document, technical resources on systems strengthening, and learning events in Costa Rica and Rwanda. I have been impressed by the passion and commitment of the members who I have spoken to so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing many of the Agenda for Change members and potential members at the All Systems Go Symposium and other upcoming events. In the meantime, please contact me with your questions and ideas!
